Some of this term's activities

In our table groups (Metal, Wood, Plastic and Fabric) we are planning, building and evaluating a group project that we will be working over the next 4 weeks. The Metal group are making musical instruments, the Fabric are sewing some fabric pictures, the Wood are building a dollshouse and the Plastic are creating a jet and a rocket. Veahepi is proudly holding up her plan that she did last week in her Science Journal.

The Mystery Bag has been a big hit so far. The children have brought in some fabulous items that they have been excited to share with the class - well done Prep Blue!

We also have a prize box in operation. The teachers are eagerly looking out for ways to hand out raffle tickets for things like beautiful behaviour, listening to the teacher's words or simply being a kind friend. We can hand out as many tickets as we like; we still only draw out 5 names on a Friday afternoon!

What do we do at Outside Time?

We love to spend time on the Fort and swing across the Monkey Bars. Today Mrs Aitken took down the scramble net; I wonder what she will put up instead? The sandpit is also very popular; so is skipping and bowling. Today Abdul-Malik and Zac had fun drawing with coloured chalk on the pathway.

What are we learning about this term? - Materials!

For the first 8 weeks of this term, we are going to be looking at 'What Things are Made of'. We will be looking at wood, metal, plastic, fabric and glass. Each week in the Collage area, we will be creating and working with one material in particular.

We have also transformed our home corner/cafe area into a Workshop... look out for our safety goggles, white coats and tools. Today block corner was empty as we had fun exploring what new things we can do in the Workshop!

Author Study - Paulette Bourgeois

This term we are going to be reading and looking at Franklin the Turtle books by Paulette Bourgeois. We will be reading a different one each day and thinking about what each book's message is. We may even write about what we have learnt and draw some pictures of Franklin's adventures.
